HANDICRAFT AND WOOD INDUSTRY ASSOCIATION OF HO CHI MINH CITY

Established in 1991, HAWA (Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City) has become the  leading trade association for handicraft and wood industry in Vietnam representing more than 340 companies mainly in the field of wood processing and furniture manufacturing.
HAWA has a broad based membership consisting of four key groups: Wood Processing – Furniture (outdoor-indoor), Handicraft (lacquer ware, fine art, pottery, porcelain, bamboo, rattan, water-hyacinth), Trade (timber, machinery, varnish, hard-ware),  Service Providers ( furniture  testing). HAWA members are located in Ho Chi Minh city, Ha Noi and others provinces such as Dong  Nai, Binh Duong, Bình Định,…

PRODUCT GROUP OF VIETNAM INDUSTRY

 For any survey in the furniture industry it is vital to understand, which product groups are in the portfolio. The portfolio shows a realistic picture or the existing product groups and provides information about concentrations on some groups or a diversified, balanced portfolio. As Viet Nam is known for Outdoor furniture it comes as no surprise that this product group dominates the portfolio. Its also reflects the usage of solid wood as a main material, as Office, Kitchen, Accessories and Upholstered furniture are diversified portfolio in product groups and particular in furniture styles, may they be contemporary, colonial, modern, classic, ethic, rustic ...

        Personnel not directly involved in the production process were 12.78% Labourers accounted for 87.13%. It has to be mentioned however that Suprvisors are as well partly involved in the production process, apart from their team-leading respectively supervising funcions. As general rule - in discussion during the survey - it can be assumed that the productive/non - productive ratio of supervisors is fifty/fifty.

Note: the temporary workers were calculated by man-months/years
Example: if a compny hdd 120 workers temporarily employed over a period of three (3) months, the 120 were divided by 4 ( which signifies one quater of the year). The result being on averge 30 workers being employed for one year.
